United Way of Larimer County is thrilled to introduce WomenRise, an extension of our WomenGive program. Since 2006, WomenGive has provided child care scholarships to single mothers pursuing higher education. WomenRise builds on this success by offering $500 monthly payments to eligible WomenGive graduates during the critical year after graduation, addressing the benefits cliff that occurs when increased earnings result in the loss of public assistance. This support aims to stabilize their transition into careers and off board from the WomenGive child care scholarship.
Program Development & Research UWLC developed WomenRise in response to the financial challenges voiced by WomenGive graduates. Research revealed that 77% of recent graduates faced a reduction in benefits, leaving them financially vulnerable despite being employed. UWLC designed WomenRise to provide crucial transitional support.
WomenRise applications will open approximately a month ahead of each traditional graduation timeframe (applications available approximately April, July, and November each year).
Expected Impact Research shows that cash assistance programs like WomenRise lead to significant positive outcomes across two-generations. We anticipate positive results in the following areas:
- Financial Stability: Alleviate financial burdens on single mothers, enabling them to achieve greater economic stability.
- Youth Opportunity: Facilitate ongoing access to quality childcare services and increase opportunities for youth education, activities, and belonging.
- Maternal and Familial Health: Improve physical and mental well-being of both the children and the mother by reducing the negative health impacts associated with financial insecurity.
The WomenRise program will award eligible WomenGive graduates with $500 per month for 12 months. Participants will be randomly selected among eligible applicants, with the total number awarded dependent upon available funding.
To be eligible for the WomenRise program, you must meet the following eligibility:
